The brethren of Lathom Lodge No 2229 and their many guests gathered at Litherland Masonic Hall for the annual installation ceremony and to witness Neil MacSymons being installed as their new WM. For the evenings ceremony the lodge was honoured by the presence of Assistant Provincial Grand Master Robert Wright as their principal guest and he was accompanied by Assistant Provincial Grand Master Kevin Poynton, Ormskirk and Bootle Group Chairman Frank Umbers, grand officers John Moore, Fred Wright, Ron Elliott, Roy Pyne and Malcolm Alexander, together with a number acting Provincial grand officers.
The WM John Roxburgh started the meeting by welcoming everyone before opening the lodge and once the initial business had been completed, the lodge DC David Sullivan announced that Robert Wright was without and demanded admission. Robert was then admitted into the temple accompanied by the grand and acting Provincial grand officers. John warmly welcomed Robert to the ceremony and offered him the gavel of the lodge, which was gracefully declined.
The master elect, Neil MacSymons was then presented to the lodge by the presenting officer Kevin Poynton and after Neil had taken his obligation, the outgoing WM John thanked the brethren for all their support and hard work they had given him during his year in office.
John then proceeded to install Neil, according to ancient custom into the chair of King Solomon. The working tools for the three degrees being delivered by John in an excellent and proficient manner.
The address to the WM was given by Ian Pye, the address to the brethren of the lodge, as is traditional in Lathom Lodge, was given by the IPM John Roxburgh.
At the end the ceremony, Robert addressed the brethren by bringing the congratulations from the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison, wishing Neil and all the brethren the very best of health and hoping they enjoy their Masonic year to the fullest. Robert also said: “If Tony was here, he would have congratulated the IPM John, the lodges DC David Sullivan and all the brethren of the lodge who had been involved in tonight’s ceremony”.
Neil then presented Robert with three cheques, £750 to the West Lancashire MCF 2021 Festival, £125 to PALMA and £125 to Bootle YMCA. After closing the lodge in prayer and harmony the brethren made their way to an excellent festive board which was enjoyed by all.
