The companions of Chapter of Unity and Perseverance No 580, together with their many visitors gathered at Ormskirk Masonic Hall to witness the installation of Alan Johnson for a second year in the chair as first principle. The companions were pleased and honoured to have the presence of Anthony (Tony) Hall, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals as their principal guest for the meeting.
For the ceremony, Tony was accompanied by Ormskirk and Bootle Group Chairman Frank Umbers, the vice chairman Graham Chambers, group secretary Malcolm Alexander and acting Provincial grand officers.
The meeting commenced with the three principals opening the chapter, before Alan Johnson welcomed all the visitors to the evening’s installation meeting. Once the initial business had been completed the chapters DC Trevor Tomlinson, announced that Tony Hall was without and sought admission. Tony was then brought into the temple in a procession, accompanied by Frank Umbers and the acting Provincial grand officers, Greg Pennington, John Wootton, Brian Griffiths and Mike Silver.
After Tony was warmly welcomed by the three principals, the installation ceremony started and the companions of the chapter and visitors were able to witness an excellent ceremony which saw Alan Johnson, Robert Hales and Roderick Green installed into their three chairs, respectively.
The scripture readings were expertly delivered by Mike Rimmer, Bill Goulden and Dave Williams. The scarlet robe address was presented by Leon Teasdale; the purple robe address was delivered by Stewart Cranage and the blue robe by Rob Hales. All the addresses were delivered in a confident and superb manner.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Tony brought greetings from the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, congratulating the three principals and saying: “The Grand Superintendent hopes you have a good and enjoyable year in office.” Tony gave a special mention to Alan and thanked him for doing a second year as first principal. He then thanked Trevor Tomlinson for his hard work as DC during the ceremony also thanking all the members of the chapter who had been involved for the excellent and enjoyable ceremony. He expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome they had given him.
Alan then presented Tony with four cheques; £450 for the MCF 2021 Festival, £150 to the WLFC, £100 to OMHA and £100 to the Ophthalmic Trust, a charity chosen by the first principal. Tony thanked the companions of the chapter on behalf of the recipients, for their kind and generous donations.
Following the convocation, the members and their guests retired to enjoy the delights of the excellent festive board, with a menu consisting of; ‘egg O’Brien’ as the starter, this is a poached hen’s egg aloft a toasted English muffin, topped with roast asparagus and crispy Parma ham, drizzled with hollandaise sauce. This was followed by slow roast beef, served with roast potatoes, a panache of seasonal vegetables, gravy and trimmings and followed by a dessert of a trio of ice creams. During the festive board a raffle was held which raised £94 which will be donated to Masonic causes later in the year.
