Bootle Pilgrim Lodge summer quiz night

For the fourth year running Bootle Pilgrim Lodge No 1473 hosted their annual summer fun quiz night, as a great opportunity for the brethren of the lodge and group accompanied with their partners and friends, to meet up during the summer break to have some fun together.

The evening commenced with WM Allan Hore warmly welcoming and thanking everyone for supporting this year’s quiz, before handing over to the quiz master John Spurr. John started the quiz off with a fun round for the teams. Each team was given a piece of paper with a different football stadium and football team written on it. They then had to find the corresponding stadium and team displayed on various cards placed around the room; this revealed the next stadium and team progressing until they reached Wembley.

The main quiz was split into various sections, starting with a ‘Who am I?’, which was a picture round of famous people, the second part of the quiz was called ‘Cinema greats’ where teams had to name the film made famous from a list of actors. This was followed by the round ‘Children’s stories who wrote about’. For this the participants were given a list of famous children’s books and had to name the famous authors.

The fourth part of the quiz was a round called ‘Who remembers the ones who were second’, which really got the brain thinking with various questions like who was the second British F1 world champion. The final round in the quiz had everyone thinking outside of the box, to get the name of plants and trees from cryptic clues.

During the night there was a short interval, were everyone was able to enjoy a large buffet, which was provided by the members of the lodge and guests, before recommencing with the quiz.

Later in the evening with the time for filling in the quiz sheets being over John gave out the answers, after which Allan had the privilege of presenting the winning team, with a score of 84 points, with a prize of £14 worth of lottery tickets, which was collected on behalf of his team by Keith Callaghan, Bootle Pilgrim Lodge. Allan then presented the runners up with a prize of £4 worth of lottery tickets to the second-place team with 82 points, which was collected by Joyce Martin, wife of Gordon also a member of Bootle Pilgrim Lodge. Finally Allan gave a prize to the team with the lowest points, a bottle of wine, which was collected by Tom Williams, Commercial Travellers Lodge No 2631.

At the end of the evening a raffle was drawn, which raised a further £88, making a total of £220 for the night, with all the proceeds to be divided between a number of charities during the ensuing year.

The quiz night now being finished, Allan again thanked everyone for attending and supporting the evening, with Allan giving special thanks to Ian Yates and his catering staff for setting the room up for the evenings quiz; Joan Skidmore for all her hard work in making the table decorations and organising the buffet and finally John Spurr for another excellent brain thinking quiz. Allan then presented John with a bottle of wine as a thank you gift for all the hard work he had given. The quiz night was again another successful night in the lodge’s social calendar, with plans to hold another quiz night next year.
