Masonic break in Tenby

Once again eight members from the Ormskirk and Bootle Group, accompanied by their wives, and along with brethren from other groups within the Province, have enjoyed a great break in Tenby on a ‘Masonic holiday’ organised by David Ogden of Bryn Lodge No 6553 of the Wigan Group.

On this occasion six members of the party were from Bootle Pilgrim Lodge No 1473, one member from Fermor Hesketh Lodge No 1350 and one member from Eureka Lodge No 3763; most of whom have supported the annual event for the last eight years.

Every year David organises a short Masonic holiday at various seaside towns, with this year’s break being held at the Belgrave Hotel, in the seaside town of Tenby, Southwest Wales. The hotel is conveniently situated on the promenade and very near the town centre. The rooms, service and food were of an excellent standard and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The five day break included visits to the ‘City’ of Saint David’s and Carmarthen. In Saint David’s everyone was able to spend some time in the beautiful cathedral, and in Carmarthen the ladies in the party had plenty of time for retail therapy! There was also an optional sponsored walk planned along the coastal path between Saundersfoot and Tenby; however David and his wife Joan decided to try out the walk the day before and came to the conclusion that it would not be safe. Instead the walk took place along the roads between Saundersfoot and Tenby.

Every evening there were activities organised and some excellent entertainment, with the opportunity to help raise more money for the charities with bingo and raffles. The holiday raised several thousand pounds which was divided between the groups on a pro rata basis, with the lodges participating from the Ormskirk and Bootle group receiving £441 which will now be donated through their lodges to the various charities and Litherland Masonic Hall.

In February 2018 the holiday will be held at the Winnock Hotel in the village of Drymen near Loch Lomond in Scotland. Anyone interested should get in touch with Pete Kelly as soon as possible, as available places will be taken up very quickly.
