The companions and guests of Bootle Chapter No 1473 recently gathered at the Litherland Masonic Hall, for the installation of Derek Challinor, as their new first principal. For the installation the chapter was pleased and honoured to have the presence of Barry Jameson PPrGSN, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals.
Barry was accompanied into the chapter by the Ormskirk and Bootle Group Chairman, Frank Umbers, and joint Ormskirk and Bootle Group Vice Chairmen Stephen Brereton and John Marsden, along with Malcolm Alexander, Arrand van Duyvenbode, Roy Pyne, Ian Gee, Derek Houston, Thomas Walsh, Brian Cunliffe, and Stephen Holcroft.
After Barry was warmly welcomed by the three principals to the chapter, the installation ceremony commenced with the second and third principals being temporary replaced for the ceremony. Russell Skidmore continued as the first principal, with Simon Gray replacing Derek Challinor as second principal and Sidney Browne replacing Michael Clarke as third principal.
Derek was then installed as the first principal by the outgoing first principal Russell and Mike was installed as second principal by Derek, with the installation of the third principal to happen at a later date. The evenings ceremony being under the expert direction of the chapter’s DC David Sullivan who carried out his duties with a high level of proficiency. The chapter had the privilege of the first principal’s and second principal’s robe addresses being presented by Roy Pyne, who delivered them in a clear and confident manner and once the appointment of the officers had been completed, the address to the companions of the chapter was undertaken by Barry Jameson.
At the conclusion of the ceremony Barry brought greetings on behalf of the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, congratulating the two principals and all the members of the chapter and for the warm and sincere ceremony saying: “The Grand Superintendent hopes you have a good and enjoyable year in office.” Barry then congratulated Russell Skidmore the outgoing first principal and Dave Sullivan the DC for their work and also Roy Pyne for the robe addresses; and to all the members of the chapter for the enjoyable ceremony.
Derek then presented Barry with two cheques on behalf of the chapter, £100 for the Province of West Lancashire MCF 2021 Festival and £100 for the Litherland Masonic Hall. After reading the cheques Barry thanked the companions for their generous donations and their support.
Following the convocation the members and guests retired to enjoy the delights of the friendly and jovial festive board, with the added addition of a performance of the ‘Three Principal’s Song’ by some of the companions and guests, accompanied by Ian Gee on the guitar, under the name ‘The Litherland Masonic Male Voice Choir’, which everyone thought was a very entertaining and enjoyable addition to the evening.
During the festive board a raffle was held which raised £104 with the money raised to be equally shared between Zoë’s Place and Claire House.
