Bootle Ladies Club was founded in 1990 for the wife’s, widows and partners of Masons in the Bootle Group, they meet once a month from September to May, at the Litherland Masonic Hall on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7.00 pm for 7.15 pm. The aim of the club is to provide support and friendship for the wives, widows and partners within the group.
The evening consists of a meal followed by a speaker, over the years they have had a wide range of subjects and interests from flower arranging, local history, ghost stories to ceramics, or like the 25th birthday we had a ukulele band and a good time was had by all. The club also supports the Bootle Groups Christmas fair. In the last few years the club has had three stalls all of which help to raise money for the group.
The club also has an almoner who keeps in touch with the members which includes the older members who may be unable to attend the meeting or if a member is sick or just needs to know someone is thinking of them for some support.
Anyone who would like to join is most welcome but to become a member you must be a wife, widow or partner of a Mason, but friends are welcome as visitor to the ladies club as often as they wish.
The club also has the Widows Fellowship Lunch Club, which was originally started for/and by the widows in the group, with the fantastic help and assistance of Jim and Lillian Irvine, 21 years ago, as a number preferred at that time, to come in the day time, rather than the evening, especially in the winter time. However, as with most things, times have changed a little, and the ‘Lunch Club’, as it is now called has members who are not widows, and also members who do not belong to the Bootle Group. The lunch is a two course meal, and a fun quiz, with no prize winners, and that is why it is a fun quiz. Occasionally there is a guest speaker. A recent ‘Bring and Buy’, which provided the winnings for the Sweepstake, where all the ladies got their horses free. In June a day trip is organised, a garden party is also in July or August. The aim of the club is to have fun, and ‘the girls’ would love to see new faces, so please give us a try.
The club would be delighted if lodge almoners would to encourage anyone who may be interested to contact Pat Gornall for further information firstname.lastname@example.org
